Calculator methodology

This calculator produces an independent estimate. It does not reproduce the official ATAR calculation and it does not provide an official result.

Data foundation

The model references summary statistics published in UAC Reports on the Scaling of the NSW Higher School Certificate for 2021 to 2025. Table A3 supplies selected HSC and scaled-mark percentiles. Table A9 supplies selected relationships between aggregate marks and ATARs.

How the estimate works

The model interpolates between published percentile anchors for each supported course. It selects the best two English units and the best eight remaining eligible units. It then estimates an ATAR from the aggregate-to-ATAR summary.

Important limitation

UAC states Table A3 is not a direct HSC-to-scaled-mark conversion table. Official calculations use raw marks, moderated assessments and complete cohort data. A reported HSC mark does not correspond to one unique scaled mark.

Annual coverage

Some courses lack a usable published percentile summary in one or more years. For those cases, the model uses a mean derived from the available published years and identifies the result as an estimate.
